Court Accountability is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to confront authoritarianism, hold corrupt actors accountable, and reclaim the Constitution for the American people. Job Overview:

We seek an experienced Senior Counsel to lead our work driving rapid response, congressional oversight, and long-term democracy restoration efforts. As a core member of our small team, you will lead the organization’s policy and oversight advocacy portfolio, spearheading strategic advocacy efforts and liaising with congressional offices and partners. This role is crucial to our mission of promoting meaningful government accountability and democratic reforms.

Responsibilities:

Policy Development and Advocacy: Shape our policy agenda, developing and implementing cross-ideological advocacy strategies. Work closely with the Chief of Staff, Communications & Media Director, Executive Director, and other members of the team to ensure alignment between policy advocacy and communications strategy.
Oversight Support: Develop proactive strategies for oversight, including, for example, planning hearings and drafting roadmaps for investigations. Work with members of the research team to identify potential topics for oversight and ensure that relevant research is incorporated into our Hill-facing materials.
Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct outreach, serve as a point of contact, and work proactively with movement partners, Congress, and other external stakeholders to implement our advocacy strategies.
Technical Drafting and Editing: Draft and edit legislation, letters, reports, testimony, lines of questioning, and other materials as needed.
Producing Written and Video Content: Write and edit rapid response memos, newsletters, white papers, and other materials. Provide video commentary and conduct interviews with Hill and movement allies for Court Accountability Action’s webcast with the MeidasTouch network’s Legal AF channel.
Monitoring: Monitor news and congressional activity for relevant developments, including announcements of upcoming hearings, committee markups, and legislative action.
Events and Briefings: Serve as a public face for Court Accountability, speaking to the press and representing Court Accountability at events, as needed.
Team Coordination: Work collaboratively with other team members to align efforts and drive our mission forward.

Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (J.D.)
7+ years of relevant experience. The ideal candidate will have government experience and/or a previous focus on oversight, investigations, and/or public interest policy advocacy. Hill experience is a plus but not required.
Exceptional legal and policy research and writing skills.
Experience coordinating and leading projects across multiple teams and with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
Flexible, able, and willing to respond to fast-breaking developments in real time.
Outstanding judgment about legal and policy issues and strategy.
The ideal candidate will have familiarity with issues such as constitutional law and politics; structural separation of powers; money in politics and corruption; reproductive freedom; administrative law.
Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset. Eagerness to be a team player and prioritize collaboration and communication over territoriality or ego.

Compensation and Benefits:

Annual salary for this position is $130,000 – $180,000, commensurate with experience.

Court Accountability offers generous benefits including health, vision, and dental plans, as well as a matching retirement plan.

While this position will be remote, the ideal candidate will be based in Washington, D.C., as this position will require periodic attendance at in-person meetings and events.
