About the organization: Make the Road PA was launched in 2014 and, over the last decade, has quicklybecome one of the largest Latinx organizations in the state of Pennsylvania. MRPA nowruns three robust organizing centers in Reading, Allentown, and Philadelphia. We havea strong, engaged membership base of Black and Brown working-class people,primarily in Latinx communities. We have a strong track record of local and statecampaigns, large-scale mobilizations on federal issues, large-scale civic engagementwork, and active leadership among key progressive organizing groups, coalitions, andtables across the state.
About the position: The Digital Organizer at MRPA and MRAPA will play a vital role in building our base and membership using online tools. This position engages in online-to-offline organizing, identifying potential members online and moving them to taking offline action. This position will provide support to the Communications Manager in digital content and strategy creation. The Digital Organizer will lead the digital basebuilding and mobilization efforts at MRPA, including generating leads, running peer-to-peer texting programs with staff and members, and working with the Organizers and Lead Organizers to advance local and statewide campaigns. They will work with the Organizing department to run leadership development training and participate in leadership development of individual members. This is not a purely content creation and social media management role, it is a position focused on building MRPA’s membership base and leadership development through digital tools.
Job responsibilities:
- Participate in base-building, including: outreach, membership recruitment and engagement, member meetings, mobilizing, and leadership development;
- Support local issue-based campaigns on immigrant rights, workers’ rights, education justice, climate justice, and/or housing justice;
- Provide digital and communications support for events and mobilizations on issues impacting the organizations’ membership;
- Develop and implement popular education and leadership development curriculum;
- Coordinate with the Lead Organizers of the organizing centers on statewide campaigns and organization-wide events;
- Develop copy (including scripts), videos, graphics, petitions, etc. for social media use;
- Constantly connect and build our national supporter base through organic social media, texting, calling, and other avenues including: member referral, reaching out to relevant online communities of progressives, blog posts, emails, or peer-to-peer texts to member lists;
- Identify relevant news articles and social media posts that reflect the organizations’ policy priorities, values, and brand for redistribution via the organization’s social media channels;
- Experiment with engagement strategies to reach out to potential supporters and current members, move them and deepen their leadership;
- In collaboration with the Communications Manager, craft effective narratives that engage a variety of stakeholders including members, allies, elected officials, and funders;
- Track the actions of the organizations’ leadership development in EveryAction (database).
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to racial, economic, and social justice, and an understanding of the challenges facing immigrant communities, communities of color, and low-income families;
- Demonstrated commitment to community organizing, leadership development, and the elevation of directly impacted and marginalized people to create change;
- 1-2 years of experience in community, labor, or other relevant digital organizing (not exclusively electoral);
- Bilingual fluency (written and spoken) Spanish and English;
- Experience creating content for Meta suite platforms required; experience with BlueSky, and Youtube preferred;
- Fluency in at least one SMS program like Hustle or ThruText;
- Familiarity with organizing through social media engagement;
- Experience using MiniVAN and a movement CRM like Every Action or Action Network;
- Excellent writing skills, including planning and outlining, editing, revising, spelling and grammar, and narrative coherence for both internal and external materials;
- Proficient graphic design skills, with the ability to work on Canva or similar graphic design software and CapCut or similar video editing software;
- Ability to move people to action using online tools;
- Strong commitment to developing other people’s leadership;
- Ability to take initiative and to effectively manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment at a growing organization;
- Valid driver’s license and a car to be used for work;
- Experience in any of MRPA’s issue areas including: immigration, climate justice, housing, education, and labor rights is highly preferred but not required.
