Instant Runoff Voting for Texas (IRV for Texas) is a nonpartisan, volunteer-run organization working to advance instant runoff voting (also known as ranked choice voting) in Texas. We're generally aligned with national groups like FairVote and Rank the Vote but operate independently. We want what works best and can be accomplished in Texas.
A generous donor has funded a part-time contract position to serve as our Executive Chair for the next six months. With successful recruiting and fundraising, the role may expand and turn into a long-term position.
You will lead the organization's rebuilding efforts, serving as the primary point of contact and the driving force moving it forward. In practice, this means:
- Recruiting and engaging volunteers, and developing a volunteer leadership core
- Leading and coordinating volunteers, board members, and partner organizations
- Jump-starting fundraising via recurring donations from new recruits as well as grant making organizations
- Keeping irvfortexas.org and public communications current and compelling
- Ensuring administrative tasks needed to run the organization get done
You will also work with our Board of Directors to:
- Set the advocacy agenda — which cities, which campaigns, which partners to prioritize
- Prioritize among competing demands on the organization’s resources
Time commitment
This is funded as a part-time role, which we anticipate to be on average 20 hours a week. Once a volunteer base is established, most of the responsibilities can be accomplished by other volunteers; that requires recruiting, delegating, and following up on delegated responsibilities.
What we're looking for
Familiarity with instant runoff voting or ranked choice voting is helpful but not required. What matters more:
- Enough organizational instinct to grow something small while rebuilding organizational infrastructure
- Genuine interest in electoral reform
- Comfort with both public advocacy and quieter relationship work
Compensation is a stipend of $5,000 per month, and the position starts as soon as possible. Please email your resume and any other materials to info@RCVforTexas.org, with "Executive Chair application" in the subject line.
