About
I learned what democracy asks of the people building it in 2008, on the Obama campaign, and again the following year with DC4Obama, doing the unglamorous volunteer work of helping the Affordable Care Act survive its passage. That's where I first understood that civic change isn't won in the moment of the vote; it's won in the months of translation before and after it, the work of helping people understand what's happening to them and why it matters. Everything since has been a variation on that same instinct: take something complicated and consequential- institutional bureaucracy, belonging, historical memory- and build the experience that lets people actually hold onto it. I've rebuilt dormant programs into ones people show up for, grown a fellowship community from nothing to nearly 200 members, and designed a residential curriculum that reached 80,000 students across 14 campuses, always with the evaluation discipline to prove the learning stuck. I still do this work today, most recently building a voter engagement platform that connects people to their registration deadlines and their candidates. I'm still, fundamentally, the person who showed up in 2008 believing democracy is something you build, not just something you defend.
