With Honor Action is seeking an experienced Legislative Director to support the organization’s legislative team in various capacities. Veteran representation in the U.S. Congress is at historic lows. With Honor Action is a cross-partisan non-profit whose mission is to strengthen democracy by fighting polarization in the U.S. Congress with principled veteran leadership. With Honor Action works alongside the bipartisan For Country Caucus of 37 veterans in the U.S. House and with a group of 11 bipartisan Senators who are committed to the With Honor pledge. The organization has helped pass more than 200 bipartisan laws since inception, with a concentration in national security, national service, and mental health. Learn more at www.withhonor.org.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead a broad portfolio of legislative work with emphasis on national security, national service, and veterans affairs
  • Work with the Vice President of Government Affairs to set comprehensive legislative priorities and strategy
  • Work in close collaboration with Hill staff to advance legislation research and analyze policy issues including, but not limited to, national security, national service, and veterans’ issues
  • Write legislative memos and other professional correspondence
  • Develop, update, and maintain key legislative tracking documents and strategic planning memos
  • Advance legislation to support U.S. allies and partners such as Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan
  • Work closely with the Communications Team to ensure organizational symmetry and cross participation to achieve strategic legislative and organizational goals
  • Help manage outside consultants and team members to advance bipartisan legislation
  • Provide factual support for all communications, advertising, and polling
  • Manage other responsibilities as assigned

Desired skills:

  • A minimum of three years of legislative experience in a congressional office, committee staff or similar environment. Congressional NSAs / MLAs, LAs, or National Security Fellows are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with the policy areas of interest to With Honor, including national security, national service, and veterans’ affairs preferred
  • Experience working with the House or Senate Armed Services Committees is preferred
  • Experience with the National Defense Authorization Act and the annual appropriations cycle
  • Experience writing legislative memos and text
  • Experience building bipartisan relationships
  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously in a fast-paced professional environment

Terms:

  • Full-time, in-office, Washington, DC-based
  • Salary range of $150,000-$175,000, commensurate with experience
  • Benefits include ICHRA for both health and dental premiums and a 401k program
