Urban Rural Action is a national grassroots movement that brings together Americans across divides to tackle our country's most urgent challenges.

The Position

The Senior Director of Communications believes deeply that we can advance UR Action’s vision of building a more peaceful and democratic society. The Senior Director will help UR Action increase the scale and impact of our Uniting for Action programs, collaboration skills workshops, and national events by elevating UR Action’s national visibility, communicating the impact of our work, and marketing our services to prospective partners and clients.

Main Responsibilities of the Senior Director of Communications

1. Elevate national visibility and grow / engage our base of supporters. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, managing and implementing a robust communications strategy for the organization
  • Communicating the impact of our work by, for example, creating program and workshop success story case studies and producing an annual impact report
  • Managing UR Action’s national social media accounts
  • Leading the development of our monthly newsletter
  • Speaking at forums, conferences, and other public events
  • Cultivating and managing relationships with national media
  • Finding other ways (e.g., opinion articles, videos, social media posts) for UR Action to contribute to and shape public discourse, including messaging on specific topics

2. Market our services to prospective partners and clients. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining our website, including optimizing for search results
  • Producing marketing materials (e.g., slide decks, 1-pagers) to support discussions with prospective community partners in our Uniting for Action programs
  • Producing marketing collateral to support discussions with prospective clients of our collaboration skills workshops
  • Ensuring consistent brand messaging across platforms and programs
  • Tracking and analyzing marketing metrics

Experience & Qualifications

  • Exceptional skill in bridge-building-related communications
  • Considerable experience marketing programs and activities to audiences across the ideological spectrum
  • A strong feel for aesthetics and visuals, e.g., in documents, on websites, etc.
  • Deep commitment to the mission, vision, and guiding principles of UR Action
  • Strong familiarity with key UR Action processes and frameworks
  • Track record of effectively working on a performance- and outcomes-based team
  • Excellent leadership skills that enable effective collaboration internally (with UR Action team) and externally (with clients, community members, partners, funders, etc)
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs
  • Positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
  • Language: Fluent English speaker. Other language skills are a plus.

Hours and Schedule: Full-time, with travel to support UR Action programming, speak at conferences, etc.

Salary: $110,000-122,000 annualized salary. This is a salaried employee position, and includes tax benefits, a leave policy, a health insurance plan, and an equipment purchase allowance. All travel expenses will be reimbursed.
