Urban Rural Action's Mission

Urban Rural Action is a national grassroots movement that brings together Americans across divides to tackle our country's most urgent challenges.

Position Overview

UR Action is looking for several quarter-time Program Leads to spearhead the planning and implementation of our flagship Uniting for Action on the Maryland Economy program, a statewide program that brings Marylanders together across divides to build relationships, strengthen collaboration skills, explore different views on economic issues, and work together to address economic challenges in MD.

The several Program Leads will form a Core Team that recruits a cohort of 25 Americans with geographic, ideological, racial, and generational diversity.

Over the course of the program, the Core Team will 1) formalize arrangements with community organizations that will serve as partner organizations, 2) administer an application process to form a diverse cohort of 25 Marylanders, 3) design and conduct interactive in-person and Zoom sessions that build skill in constructive dialogue, 4) promote new relationships across lines of difference, 5) lead small-group activities that foster deeper undestanding of different perspectives, and 6) work with smaller teams of participants to identify, analyze, and tackle a community challenge in partnership with a designated community organization.

You will be joining a remote team, and will report to the UR Action Executive Director.

Main Responsibilities as part of Core Team

Conduct planning from October '22 - December '22 and implement the program from January '23 - September '23, including the following:

  • Support recruitment of participants
  • Manage relationships with partner organizations
  • Design and conduct in-person workshops and Zoom gatherings that bring together Marylanders for relationship-building, skill-building, constructive dialogue, and collaboration
  • Conduct program evaluations and share findings

Additional Responsibilities

  • Communicate externally about the program on UR Action’s website, social media, and with the mainstream media
  • Participate in public events that explore connections between this program and UR Action's vision of a more peaceful, just, and democratic United States

Experience & Qualifications

  • Strong familiarity with key UR Action frameworks: ABCs for Constructive Dialogue, Problem Tree Analysis, Stakeholder and Influence Mapping, and Community Intervention Design
  • Excellent oral and written communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Tenacious community organizing skills
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of UR Action
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs
  • Language: Fluent English speaker. Other language skills are a plus.

Schedule: Generally flexible hours, but with a need to participate in (1) program gatherings in person on Saturdays (dates to be decided by Core Team) and on Zoom on weekday evenings, and (2) weekly Core Team planning meetings, including during the business day.

Salary: $25/hour
