United Today, Stronger Tomorrow, a national, state, and local organizing project, is seeking to hire a local full-time (1 year contract) Utah base-building organizer to build and mobilize a base of workers and community members to fight for good jobs, local hiring, and projects that benefit communities around the state.

Job Description: The organizer will work under the direction and with support from the Utah Lead Organizer to recruit, develop and mobilize community members as well as members of our coalition members, to participate in campaigns focused on winning strong worker rights, local hiring and projects that help transition Utah to a new clean energy future. Current campaigns identified by the Steering Committee include one targeting corporate and state actors to ensure federal funds create good jobs, promote local hiring and transition to new clean and renewable energy production. Our second campaign is focused on ensuring local school districts apply for and implement programs to transition to clean energy.

Job Responsibilities: ● Build out organizing committees in a set of counties and regions of the state to help us achieve our campaign goals. ● Recruit people into organizing campaigns that achieve the above goals through a combination of in-person, digital and phone conversations. ● Conducting one on ones with existing and potential community leaders to identify how they can help build the campaign. ● Identify new pipelines of leaders and activists for campaigns ● Convene organizing committees to be co-facilitated by member leaders. ● Moderate Facebook groups and other social channels specific to the project. ● Identify leadership roles and support leaders in doing community organizing work (training, check-ins, and management, for example). ● Organize and work with leaders to lead meetings and briefings, for example. ● Implement an earned media strategy to garner local press and media attention. ● Organize research teams that can identify policy solutions and communicate them to a general audience. ● Learn and teach local political dynamics to organizing committee leaders.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate is someone who has strong experience in recruiting people into campaign work, and/or building volunteer run projects. and mobilizing these people and their networks into mass based events or actions. In addition, the ideal candidate will be committed to working with diverse communities and people across the political spectrum; experience on an issue, policy, corporate, union, or administrative campaign; and interest in leading a campaign.

Specific qualifications include: ● One-two years experience conducting membership recruitment, high contact community engagement work and building community leaders. ● Experience working on a campaign - preferably an issue, administrative, corporate, or unionization campaign. ● Experience managing projects, programs, or an organizing committee. ● An ability to build and manage relationships with a wide array of stakeholders and to multitask different pieces of work. ● Experience building diverse teams and staffing workgroups and/or committees. ● A track record of recruiting, developing, and managing leaders and volunteers. ● The ability to implement digital organizing tools, tactics, and strategies. ● Strong writing skills. ● Experience working with media (writing press releases, pitching, and organizing press events) is preferred, but not required. Working knowledge of EveryAction, Spoke texting tool, New Mode, and digital advertising is a plus but not required.

Access to an automobile will be mandatory for this position, as travel around the state will be required.

Salary range is $ 1,000 - $1,400 per week DOE.
