Grants Manager

The Texas Freedom Network (TFN) seeks a full-time Grants Manager. TFN is a statewide, non-partisan, grassroots organization that is building an informed and effective movement working toward equality and social justice.

The Grants Manager oversees the process and production of all materials related to the grant application process from identifying and qualifying prospects, to writing proposals and reports, to collecting data, budgets, and relevant documents, to submission. This role is responsible for writing proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects and for submitting timely and accurate reports for all existing grant funded projects. This position will create an annual schedule of funding cycles to optimize the organization’s ability to be considered and create quarterly communications updating all partners. The Grants Manager reports to the Development Director.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Compiles, writes, and edits grant applications exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar, spelling, and budget.

  • Works with the Development Director and Vice President of Finance & Operations to create annual grants budget, tracks against monthly goals and reports information.

  • Research grant-making organizations and analyze them to identify likely funding sources for specific projects and programs.

  • Through interviews, research and other means, this position gathers information to fully understand and apply the concept of a project or program for which funding is sought.

  • Acquires and maintains sound knowledge and understanding of the organization and uses that knowledge and understanding to better comprehend all projects and programs for which grants will be sought and recommends the seeking of grants.

  • Reviews and understands program budgets for which funding is sought and makes recommendations to track and follow for reports.

  • Works with finance and human resources to gather information necessary to report to funders on current grant programs.

  • Develops individual grant proposals in accordance with each grant-making organization’s preferences and follows grant-making organization's guidelines.

  • Maintains contact with grant-making organizations during their review of a submitted grant application to supply additional supportive material.

  • Manages the process of supplying progress reports when required by a grant-making organization that has funded a project or program.

  • Provides stewardship to current donors via regular written updates to funders.

  • Takes a leadership role in cultivating and stewarding relationships.

  • Understands institutional history and programs.

  • Provides general support to the development department during peak periods and assists other staff as needed.

  • Assists in the preparation of materials for Board meetings.

  • Performs other duties as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Three or more years of experience in grant writing, grants management or nonprofit fundraising with a proven record of soliciting, closing and stewarding gifts.

  • Demonstrated analytical and persuasive writing skills experience as well as superior editing skills, including ability to convey complex information in a clear manner to a diverse audience.

  • Strong administrative skills and self-motivation with the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks under minimal supervision in an effective and efficient manner.

  • Intermediate to expert skills in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc.

  • Experience with donor database CRMs and project management systems (Raiser’s Edge, ActBlue, EveryAction, NGP VAN, Asana, etc.) is a plus

  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to deadlines.

Benefits

Salary: $60,000 - 70,000 (depending on experience)
