About The Contract
RepresentUs is supporting the campaign to pass statewide Ranked Choice Voting in Oregon, which will appear on Oregon voters’ ballots in November 2024.
The Field Organizer will work to organize volunteers and voters and work with coalition members to help pass RCV in Oregon under the leadership of RepresentUs staff and in close coordination with and support of the local OR RCV campaign.
The Field Organizer will help organize and support RepresentUs local action teams in the state and plan and execute events and training. The Field Organizer will also assist RepresentUs in collecting, assembling and standardizing data and reports on our organizing efforts in the state.
The Field Organizer will submit regular reports to the State Director.
Contract Deliverables
- Support RepresentUs local volunteer action teams
- Recruit volunteers – Build a volunteer base through relational community outreach.
- Mobilize Constituents - Use digital tools including peer-to-peer text tools, VAN, and Every Action to mobilize Oregon voters for RCV and other RepresentUs priorities.
- Develop leaders – Train volunteers to take on immediate leadership and develop ongoing leaders. Work with RepresentUs state leaders to grow their core team to five committed volunteer leaders.
- Support Strategic Planning - Organize a debrief after the legislative session to support the local team to plan their next steps to grow their group and select their next campaign.
- Organize campaign events to support the campaign strategy
- Work with local leaders to support 10 local events, including LTE-writing parties, info sessions, tabling events and house parties. These may be held in person or remotely via zoom.
- Participate in strategic planning, administrative tasks, and internal meetings as necessary.
- Reporting and data tracking to monitor campaign progress with daily and weekly reports.
- Maintain an up-to-date database and new supporter contacts.
- Join regular organizing team meetings, and participate in Local Action team support planning.
Skills and Experience
Must have:
- 3-5 years of organizing, advocacy or other relevant experience.
- Based in Oregon with the ability to travel around the state.
- Self starter and problem solver. You’re not afraid of a challenge and will hit the ground running.
- Excellent people skills and experience working with coalitions.
- Comfortable learning and applying new skills quickly.
- Commitment to working beyond partisanship – experience with cross-partisan coalitions is preferred.
- Recruiter who’s able to mobilize community and personal networks and/or use creative ideas to build a group of people quickly.
- Passion for electoral reform, voting rights, and/or good governance issues.
- Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends as needed to accommodate event schedules.
- Must have valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and be able to travel regularly around the state.
Compensation and Benefits
$4,000-6,000 per month depending on experience. Eligible travel costs are also available for reimbursement. The OR Field Organizer is an Independent Contractor position.
