The League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS, the League) is a nonpartisan political organization that has fought for more than 100 years to improve American systems of government and impact public policies through citizen education, advocacy, and litigation. The enduring vitality and resonance of the League as a trusted force for change and good government comes from its unique decentralized structure: a national organization with strong partnerships at the grassroots level with more than 800 state and local Leagues across the country including the District of Columbia. At the national level, League activities are coordinated and staffed by two distinct but complementary organizations: The League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS) and the League of Women Voters Education Fund (LWVEF).
- Cultivate positive relationships with major individual and institutional donors through personalized communication via email, phone calls, and written correspondence.
- Strategize and implement initiatives to engage donors effectively and deepen their involvement with the organization.
- Execute strategy under direction from the Sr. Director of Advancement to develop and implement tailored stewardship plans for major donors.
- Travel, as needed, to conduct donor meetings alongside or as proxy to the Sr. Director of Advancement and Development events.
- Assist in drafting grant applications and proposals to secure funding from foundations, corporations, and other grant-making entities.
- Conduct research on potential grant opportunities and assist in the preparation of grant-related documents and reports.
- Coordinate with program staff to gather relevant information and data for grant proposals.
- Work closely with the Sr. Director of Advancement to support the development, implementation, and impact data collection of fundraising strategies and campaigns.
- Assist in the identification and cultivation of prospective donors.
- Collaborate with the Development team to analyze fundraising data and trends, and provide insights to inform strategy development.
- Handle various independent Development tasks & projects as assigned by the Sr. Director of Advancement.
- Maintain accurate donor records in the organization's database, ensuring all information is up-to-date and properly documented.
- Generate reports and analyze data to support fundraising efforts and decision-making processes.
- Implement data management best practices and protocols.
- Work to ensure that donor requests or needs are met and recorded, in support of the rest of the Development team.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- 4+ years preferred experience in nonprofit Development or program management.
- Experience working with donor databases or CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce).
- Understanding of fundraising principles and practices, particularly in the nonprofit sector.
- Strong interpersonal skills and deep abilities in engaging with funders, foundations, or others with strategic giving plans.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Interested in exploring the use of innovative technologies (including potentially AI) to support growth of revenue.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, in particular).
- Commitment to the mission and values of the League of Women Voters, with a passion for supporting the growth of the organization.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively with multiple simultaneous audiences and at various levels of the organization.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
LOCATION
The Advancement Manager may be based anywhere in the US, working remotely, or in the Washington, D.C., area, with a hybrid remote/in-office schedule.
SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary for this position is $98,000. We have a generous benefits package that includes 95 percent employer –sponsored health insurance, dental and vision insurance, paid holidays, vacation days, sick days, pre-tax transit benefits, and the opportunity to contribute to a 401(K) plan.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The person in this position is primarily sedentary and needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery. The person must also be available to travel and walk longer distances to offices and events. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer, and computer printer.
