FairVote Washington is hiring a full-time Organizer with an immediate start date to build and engage with new and veteran supporters in key regions throughout Washington state. The Organizer will report to the Organizing Director. Women, people of color, LGBTQ individuals and immigrants are strongly encouraged to apply.   • Immediate opening
  • Full-time, employee position
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, especially evenings and weekends
  • Must live in or be willing to travel to Central, Eastern, or Southwest WA on a frequent basis;
  • Must have reliable access to a car and a valid driver’s license
  • Salary: $60,000 - $62,000
  • Health Benefits: FVWA covers 74% of the medical premiums
  • Retirement: Option to enroll in the SIMPLE IRA account; FVWA will match any contributions you make up to 3% of your annual pay
  • Paid Time Off: Includes all federal holidays, the day after Thanksgiving, a week between Christmas and New Year’s, plus 15 days of PTO and 12 days of sick time

Chapter Development & Movement Building

  • Grow and manage 2-4 local chapters in Eastern and Central Washington (or where needed)
  • Conduct trainings relevant to the needs of chapters or local volunteers
  • Build relationships with volunteers, peers at partner organizations, and in the community
  • Support statewide organizing efforts through volunteer recruitment, metric tracking, drafting emails, hosting events, and more
  • Support routine programming, such as our monthly webinars
  • Support grassroots fundraising efforts

Campaign Support

  • Field support for endorsed candidates and/or campaigns, regionally
  • Implement GOTV strategies, especially canvassing, phonebanking, and text-banking
  • Manage volunteer metrics, at times in coordination with FairVote Washington PAC and endorsed campaigns
  • Track hours for PAC-related compliance
  • Become an expert in effective messaging around democracy reform, especially ranked-choice voting and proportional representation
  • Write memorandums for all events that include other staff members or volunteers

Administrative

  • Manage volunteer data
  • Document each event with pictures and/or short videos
  • Communicate necessary updates for website and social media (e.g. organizing opportunities & wins)
  • Track and report mileage & expenses

Desired Skills and Qualifications: to be trained if needed

  • 2 campaign cycles and/or 2 years of previous experience organizing with a nonprofit, or equivalent leadership experience
  • Intermediate understanding of Washington State’s political landscape, including the state legislature and campaign schedule
  • Volunteer management experience or equivalent experience
  • Exposure to media training
  • Knowledge about ranked-choice voting and enthusiasm to bring it to Washington state
  • Experience using EveryAction, Voter Activation Network, and/or Votebuilder
  • Customer service/hospitality experience
  • Multilingual (any)

  • Excitement about electoral reform, especially ranked-choice voting and proportional representation
  • Ability to lead a group of people through tasks to achieve set goals
  • Willingness to try new things, and learn from mistakes
  • Ability to maintain long-term goals through short-term strategies
  • Highly organized, strong attention to detail
  • Availability to work nights & weekends as needed
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings
  • Commitment to working in a nonpartisan manner within a politically diverse organization
  • Familiarity with Google Suite, Zoom, and Canva
