The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget is looking for enthusiastic interns to join our team. We are a nonpartisan, non-profit organization committed to educating the public on issues with significant fiscal policy impact. Our bipartisan leadership comprises some of the nation's leading budget experts, which has included many past heads of the House and Senate Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Government Accountability Office.

We welcome applications from highly motivated undergraduate or graduate students year-round, though interns typically work for one semester (Fall, Spring, or Summer). Interns may work full-time or part-time while attending classes. Interns work as a full member of their respective team, attending meetings and working alongside full-time staff members. All interns will be paid the DC minimum wage.

This internship is located at our offices in Washington, DC. We are currently working in a hybrid environment; interns will be expected to work in person on days when the staff are working in the office.

Below are descriptions of the intern responsibilities for each team. Applicants should specify in their email subject line and cover letter which team they would like to work with. There will also be opportunities for interns to work with other departments on crossover projects.

Responsibilities will include attending committee hearings; tracking House and Senate floor activity; researching policymakers’ positions; drafting blogs, memos, outreach to Capitol Hill, and summaries of legislation; and scheduling meetings, attending meetings, and taking notes. Previous experience on Capitol Hill is a plus but not required. Legislative interns will often collaborate with the Policy team. The Legislative team is accepting applicants until Tuesday, April 30th.

The Communications team seeks to advance the Committee’s work and message with members of the media and the public. Responsibilities will include drafting content and visuals for social media, assisting with the collection and sending of media clips, monitoring press coverage of the Committee, designing graphics, and undertaking various research and writing projects.
