The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) is a Washington, DC-based think tank that helps policymakers work across the aisle to craft bipartisan solutions. By connecting lawmakers, delivering data and context, negotiating policy details, and creating space for bipartisan collaboration, BPC ensures democracy can function on behalf of all Americans. We believe that bipartisanship combines the best ideas of both parties to create even better, lasting policy.
BPC is seeking a media relations professional to join our communications team. In this role, your primary function is to generate positive media coverage for some of BPC’s policy programs, directors and/or executive directors, policy analysists, and other senior staff. You will be part of a six-person media team, and will also work closely with the broader communications team, including marketing, digital, and events.
Responsibilities
- Lead communication efforts of select BPC policy areas and promote the organization’s overall mission to craft policy solutions that improve lives.
- Work collaboratively with project directors and teams to develop proactive communications strategies
- Draft press releases, advisories, op-eds, and other written materials
- Draft statements, quotes, and posts/comments for earned media opportunities
- Draft copy and create content for staff and BPC’s social media platforms
- Create interview briefing materials, including talking points and backgrounders
- Review, edit, and approve op-eds, blog posts, newsletters, and other written materials
- Secure placement of op-eds and letters to the editor
- Work collaboratively with digital and events teams to ensure coordination of communications efforts
- Proactively pitch reporters, producers, and editors on the team’s research, legislative priorities, mission, and expertise
- Analyze media metrics and provide periodic reports to team and internal leaders, including for quarterly board reports
- Supports communications leadership as necessary on special projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- At least three years of relevant experience
- Solid writing skills, familiarity with AP Style
- Demonstrated track record of sound judgment and responsibility
- Exercises independent decision-making skills
- Communicates effectively with media relations, policy team members, and communications leadership
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once in a fast-paced environment

Work Schedule
The work/life balance of employees is a priority for the Bipartisan Policy Center. As a result, BPC is currently operating on a hybrid schedule. Employees at BPC are currently coming into the office three times a week. Exact time and schedules will be determined between an employee and their manager.
This position is budgeted at $68,000.
