Position Overview: The Policy Director will work closely with our Senior Advisor to oversee and manage the AV democracy portfolio which seeks to foster a responsive and accountable government through competitive elections. In addition, the Senior Advisor will support grantmaking to promote reliable, affordable, clean energy, identify and advance commonsense, bipartisan immigration solutions, and eliminate the waiting list for patients on the organ waiting list.

The Director will be responsible for helping identify, analyze, and pursue new, high-leverage philanthropic opportunities, as well as managing current investments and partnerships. This position will be in the Houston, TX office and will report to the Senior Advisor.

Core Responsibilities: • Partner with Senior Advisor to refine and execute the grantmaking strategy across democracy, climate and clean energy, immigration, and organ donation • Monitor and evaluate the performance of grantee portfolios including regular coordination calls and reviewing interim and final reports • Provide strategic guidance and support to AV grantees on strategy, proposal development, partnerships, and managing real-time challenges • Identify and develop charitable investment and grant recommendations for the Arnold Ventures’ Board of Directors • Build and cultivate external relationships with co-funders, policymakers, and coalition partners across and within portfolios • Collaborate with the Senior Advisor and the Advocacy and Communications teams to support the execution of advocacy and issue campaigns • Coordinate across internal AV teams including advocacy, external affairs, communications, grants management, finance, and legal • Compile regular portfolio updates for internal reporting • Attend external engagement events on behalf of Arnold Ventures

Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree required • 7-10 years of relevant work experience, preferably including experience with federal or state policy • Strong policy analysis and research skills; ability to understand technical and theoretical concepts • Strong leadership, people management, and relationship-building skills • Exceptional strategy development, project management, and organizational skills • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate key takeaways to diverse, nontechnical audiences
