Young Americans Network Coordinator (David Nevins Fellowship)

About American Promise

The promise of our great American democracy is freedom, equal rights, and representation for every person. But today, billions of dollars of unaccountable money in election spending is silencing the voices of 330 million Americans by driving false and divisive narratives and making our government dysfunctional. As we face this crisis, we also face an opportunity to unite Americans to change the course of history. While polarized on many issues, most Americans worry that our democracy is threatened, and 86% of those point to the role of money in elections as the chief cause. Most Americans also support the principles behind the For Our Freedom Amendment because it protects free speech, representation, and election integrity for all Americans. It restores power to the people – and the States and Congress – to make effective rules about how money is used in elections. It doesn’t dictate any particular policy or claim to offer the one-right-way to protect our elections and rights; instead, it enables Americans to do it ourselves, as circumstances warrant and change, over all the time still to come.

American Promise was launched in 2016 with a singularly focused goal – to win a Constitutional amendment to end systemic corruption and secure free speech and representation for all Americans. Successful constitutional amendments require something rare in today’s political climate: sustained strategic focus and execution, and bridge-building and expanding consensus among nearly all Americans, regardless of political divisions. American Promise’s board, staff, advisory council, investors, volunteers, and supporters are Republicans, Independents, and Democrats in every state in America. The story of our success is in the commitment and bravery in execution of so many American Promise supporters who embrace bridging and civic renewal as both a process and an end in itself.
